The Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was called to assist the man, whose cruiser had suffered engine failure and drifted into reeds by Terryglass Harbour on the northern end of the lake.
The man, believed in his 70s, was safe and unharmed, and the boat was towed to Terryglass Harbour.
In light of the incident, volunteers have urged skippers to ensure their boat has fresh fuel and is well serviced before taking to the water.
