In universities and colleges across the country, final-year students are nearing the completion of their degree courses but it’s expected many will not remain in Ireland.

A third-level qualification does not guarantee graduates a job and one if does become available, in many cases, accommodation and other costs can prove prohibitive in cities and larger urban areas.

Of the estimated 85,000 students who graduate every year, a large proportion find it difficult to secure work in their chosen field.

Many will make a conscious decision to go abroad for a time and the reasons for this vary. Generally though, graduates usually return to Ireland.

It would always be the hope that they remain here and every effort is made by colleges to ensure graduates know the value of staying at home without dictating to them what they should do.
