Shortfalls in investment and proper planning have been blamed for persistent flooding in the vicinity of an iconic East Clare lake.
Improved drainage has been sought in the catchment area of Lough Graney following reports of “persistent flooding challenges” which have resulted in “frequent road closures” this autumn.
Killaloe Municipal District has identified and submitted works to be carried out at Ayle Upper which is one area affected by the expansion of floodplains, and have said the works will include the “raising of the existing road network” to prevent similar issues in the future.
Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes says many landowners have suffered over the years due to poor management of the River Graney.
