Local Involvement In Thai Rescue Hailed Internationally

A Clare-based cave diver was part of the international team who helped rescue the 12 boys and their coach in Thailand yesterday.

Jim Warny from Belgium, who is a member of the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation, has been living in Ennis for 15 years and flew out on Friday to assist in the mission after an appeal from Thai authorities.

Credits are also rolling in after diving equipment from Cappamore in Limerick was rushed out to the rescue site after local man Cathal Mullane responded to the worldwide emergency appeal for specialist kit.

The group who were trapped for more than two weeks are now in hospital where they’re being mentally and physically assessed.

This woman’s 11 year-old nephew’s among them.
