Eight Councillors have been elected on Day One of counting in the 2014 Local Elections in Ennis.
Counting is finished in Killaloe where Fianna Fáil have won three seats – former Mayor Pat Hayes was elected early in the night, while Tony O'Brien of Killaloe exceeded the quota on the final count. Alan O'Callaghan was deemed elected without reaching the quota while the last candidate to lose out here was Mayor of Clare Joe Arkins.
One candidate was elected in Ennis tonight – James Breen had topped the poll from the First Count. Among the candidates eliminated in the twelve counts were two members of the outgoing County Council – Fianna Fáil's Brian Meaney and Tony Mulqueen of Fine Gael.
Fianna Fáil's Cathal Crowe exceeded the quota after the first count in Shannon – a second saw Indepdendent Mike Fleming and Fís Nua's Karen Christine Wyse eliminated.
No counting has been carried out of the votes in West Clare, though early tallies predicted that Independent Christy Curtin would top the poll.
Counting resumes at 9 a.m tomorrow morning and Clare FM will, once again, have live rolling coverage of the proceedings.
