Less than 50% of people living in Clare were born in the county.
New data from the most recent census reveals Clare has the eighth lowest percentage of people who were born in and currently reside in the same county.
Just 47% of Clare residents were born here.
By comparison, Meath had the lowest percentage of people who were born and resident in the same county at 32% while Cork had the highest at 72%.
36% of people living in Clare were born elsewhere in the country while 17% were born outside of Ireland.
Turning to housing, 67% of Clare people who moved home in the year leading up to the census remained in the county while 33% went elsewhere in Ireland
In terms of housing status, 41% of households are owner-occupied and 17% are rented.
The majority of people live in detached houses with this figure being 41%, and semi-detached being the next most inhabited at 25%.
Looking at age profile across Clare, Crusheen is the youngest town with an average age of 33 while Cratloe is the oldest with the average there being 46.
Meanwhile, Kilrush is the sixth oldest town with a population of over 1,500 in the country – the average resident there is 44.
It was noted that three quarters of the twelve oldest towns in the country were in the West of Ireland.
The census also revealed that Ennis is the sixth most populated town in Ireland with 27,923 permanent residents there.
