Kilrush Tech Company Calling For Fibre Redundancy In West Clare Following Large Outage Last Week

A Kilrush based technology company is calling for Eir to implement fibre redundancy in the region as an open letter has been sent from home and business owners in west Clare expressing concern over the vulnerability of broadband infrastructure.

It follows an incident in Kilrush last week where a road traffic incident resulted in the disconnection of broadband services for approximately 4,400 customers.

In a statement to Clare FM, Eir said this “was not due to inadequate infrastructure or a lack of fibre redundancy” and the outage was “completely outside of Eir’s control”.

Chris Koble from Borrow a Geek in Kilrush says one point of failure causing connectivity issues for an entire area isn’t good enough.
