The US Secretary of State has begun talks with his Russian counterpart over the Ukraine crisis and the murder of one of Vladimir Putin's most prominent opponents.

John Kerry and Sergei Lavrov are meeting just days after the Secretary accused Russian officials of "lying to his face" about Moscow's involvement in Eastern Ukraine.
It's understood Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was compiling a report into Russia's involvement in the fighting when he was shot near the Kremlin on Friday.
