Kellegher vows to retain smaller Clare schools through Seanad

 

Seanad hopeful and Corofin Native Declan Kellegher is vowing to fight to retain smaller schools across Clare if elected to the upper chamber of Leinster House.

The former president of the INTO and Principal of Corofin National School is one of 27 candidates on the NUI panel and is its only Clare representative.

Over 44 small rural schools across the county are at risk of closure if the government presses ahead with the controversial McCarthy Report plans – which calls for schools with less than fifty pupils to be amalgamated.
