The Jobs Minister Richard Bruton has welcomed the official opening of a multi-million euro cloud computing centre in Shannon, which it’s hoped will lead to a significant spin-off for the local economy.
Global corporation -Mentor Graphics is basing its regional data operations- which serve all of Europe, The Middle East and Africa -on a two and a half acre site in East Park – generating 7 new jobs.
The company which already employs 100 people in the area hopes to double its workforce at the new date centre within three years.
Mentor Graphics’ Site Manager Martin Gennery says Shannon and Ireland has fought off stiff competition to become home to the multi-million euro facility.
Minister Richard Bruton says today’s announcement shows that the cloud computing sector can bring great benefits to regional locations as well as major cities.
