Irish Water And Council Set To Hold Lough Derg Extraction Talks

Irish Water looks set to meet with Clare County Councillors regarding plans to extract water from the River Shannon in order to supply Dublin.

The project is one of a number of proposals which are being looked at to shore up water supply in the capital, but has been met with fierce criticism here amid economic and environmental concerns.

Irish Water has now told the Council that it thinks meeting all Councillors would be beneficial, as well as separate talks with East Clare Councillors in July.

Until now, the state utility has largely held behind closed doors meetings with Councillors, with these being boycotted by some.
