The Irish Self-Catering Federation is concerned that businesses in Clare could be negatively impacted if new legislation on short-term lets requires all accommodation to have planning permission.
The Registration of Short-Term Tourist Letting Bill 2022 aims to establish a register of properties, to be managed by Fáilte Ireland, which will require owners to get planning permission for change of use.
This means that AirBnB and other websites would only be allowed to advertise properties that are registered with Fáilte Ireland.
However, Chair of the Irish Self-Catering Federation, Máire Ní Mhurchú says there could be a huge economic impact on Clare’s tourism industry if there’s a clampdown on self-catering accommodation without planning permission.
