The average rent for a new tenant in Clare jumped by 20% in the past year.
Figures contained in the Residential Tenancies Board’s quarterly report, published today, show the average monthly cost for new tenants in the county was just over €1,200 between October and December last year.
It was more expensive to rent in the Shannon area, with new tenants paying out more than €1,450 euro a month, while in Ennis the figure was €1,207.
The report also shows the gap between the cost for new and existing tenants is widening, with existing tenants across Clare paying €912 euro on average in comparison, up just over 9% on the last quarter of 2022.
In Shannon, the figure stood at €995, and in Ennis, it was a €923 monthly cost.
