HSE CEO Disputes Figures Suggesting Record Overcrowding At Region’s Main Hospital

The head of the HSE has disputed figures suggesting record-breaking levels of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital this week.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation reported on Monday that 130 admitted patients were without a bed at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, the highest number ever recorded at any Irish hospital.

However, the HSE’s Chief Executive Officer claims the number was closer to 100, with 40 on trolleys in the Emergency Department, a further 18 in dedicated spaces and 40 more elsewhere in the hospital.
