A Clare Fine Gael Councillor says she was surprised to learn that a Junior Minister had questioned a woman on her marital status during a job interview.
John Halligan has been fined after asking a female applicant if she was married or had children – He claims he wanted her to know the work hours could be flexible, but didn’t ask other candidates for similar information.

The Workplace Relations Commission ruled that the question was discriminatory, with Minister Halligan understood to be contesting the decision.
Ennis councillor Mary Howard says it was completely out of order.
