A South-East Clare community is set to receive a major housing boost.
The local authority has granted permission for over 60 new homes and a playground to be constructed in Meelick.
Coast to Coast Energy Solutions has been operating in Clean Energy Real Estate for over 35 years and first submitted plans to expand operations in Clare last March.
The planning wasn’t all plain sailing with one objection leading to a further information request from the council and some delays.
One local resident claimed the plans to build the 60 new homes however represented “opportunistic land assembly dressed up as placemaking”.
The submission stated the development would add 165 residents to a village that has no shop, no childcare facility, no healthcare facility, intermittent public transport and a school operating out of prefabs.
However, Clare County Council ultimately granted permission subject to 22 conditions.
The development will see 19 two-bed homes, 25 three-bed homes and 17 four-bed homes constructed on a 2.9 hectare site in Meelick.
A Part V planning agreement has also been struck with the council, meaning up to 13 of the homes will be used for social or affordable housing.
