The number of people who are homeless in this county has remained fairly static in the last number of months, and has decreased slightly since the beginning of the pandemic back in March.

70 people were considered homeless in Clare coming into December, and this number remained at 68 as of New Year’s Day according to the Department of Housing.

Clare County Council’s monthly management report would also suggest a drop in demand for its homeless services – 60 adults and 21 dependents were in emergency accommodation here at Christmas time, compared to 67 adults and 22 dependents the month before.

The majority of these people are living in accommodation situated in the Laurel Lodge, Westbrook and Ashfield Court facilities in Ennis.

The Midwest region has also seen a 10 percent drop in the number of families presenting as homeless in the past month, coinciding with a slight drop on figures nationwide.
