Hotel Doolin has become the first Irish hotel to be recognised as being carbon neutral by The Green Hospitality Programme.
The hotel has been honoued for environmental initiatives, including a ban of plastic bottles and single-use items, reusable napkins, and toilet paper made from recycled materials.
It changed its oil-based heating system to an ambient air to water system, and replaced a marquee with an Eco-Barn for weddings and events.
The staff also plant ten native trees locally for every wedding held, with over 1,700 trees planted in the past two years.
Rainwater is harvested, and 75 per cent of food supplied to the hotel is sourced within 50 kilometres.
