Hopes Refusal Of Visas To Palestinian Group To Visit Clare Wasn’t “Policy Decision”

It’s hoped the refusal of travel visas to Palestinian children who were due to stop off in Clare during a GAA tour of Ireland wasn’t a “policy decision”.

A total of 47 people, including 33 children and 14 sports officials, had intended to take a two-week trip to GAA clubs across Ireland this month which was to include a stop in Clare.

The Department of Justice has defended the decision not to grant visas to the group, saying “each visa application is decided on its own merits” and “an application will be refused if it cannot demonstrate
compliance” with requirements.

Kilmaley native and Chairperson of Sadaka, the Ireland Palestine Alliance, Éamonn Meehan, is holding out hope that the situation can be “sorted out”.
