Homelessness levels in Clare in December last year were more than 20 percent lower than 2020 levels.
53 people were classified as homeless this past Christmas by the Department of Housing.
The Department’s monthly report shows 308 people were without a home in the week of the 20th to the 26th of December in the Midwest, with 53 of them here in Clare.
That compares to 68 people who were considered homeless in the same month in 2020.
However, the number of families seeking a home in the region has significantly increased, with 46 families in the Department’s records in the Midwest last month, compared to 30 the year prior.
There were 69 child dependents of homeless families in the region this past Christmas.
Clare County Council’s latest monthly management report shows its Homeless Action Team had a total of 113 presentations in the 5 weeks before Christmas, with 24 of them new presentations.
55 adults and 23 dependents are registered as being assisted by the Team, with the majority of these people in emergency accommodation in Laurel Lodge, Westbrook and Ashford Court.
The Midwest region makes up for around 5 percent of the total number of registered homeless people nationwide.
