The head of Clare’s fire service has revealed that last night’s hoax call, which sparked a major search along the River Fergus in Ennis, is one of over 30 so far this year.
An extensive two-hour search was undertaken by local coastguard crews, fire personnel from Ennis and Gardai as well as the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter after fire control was told that someone was spotted entering the water.
