High Dependency Unit at Ennis General to remain closed

The HSE has confirmed that the High Dependency Unit at Ennis General will not re-open.

Over the Christmas period, the three bed HDU at Ennis General began to be used for general medical patients, with health officials admitting difficulties in securing staff to run the unit for high dependency patients.

The HSE also insisted the demands for high dependency care at Ennis was minimal, and in a briefing to local representatives CEO of the Mid-Western Regional Hospitals Group Ann Doherty has confirmed the High Dependency Unit will not re-open.

Ennis Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney feels the Health Service should be more open about the change.
