A major protest is to be mounted tomorrow, calling for the A&E departments in Ennis and Nenagh to be reopened to alleviate overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.

The Midwest Hospital Campaign group is the driving force behind the demonstration, which will see contingents from Clare, Tipperary and Limerick march separately before joining forces in Limerick City Centre.

The protest comes just weeks after University Hospital Limerick’s trolley numbers hit an all-time high of 92.
