A Clare Health Forum member insists the Health Minister and Senior HSE and Hospital management can’t ignore what’s effectively “open revolt” from close to 100 doctors.

87 doctors and consultants at University Hospital Limerick have written an open letter, calling for chronic under resourcing of the region, in both primary and hospital care, to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

They say staff endeavouring to provide the best possible care to patients are becoming increasingly demoralised and as a result, the hospital’s facing ongoing problems with recruitment and retention.

The letter also highlights the fact that patients from remote parts of West Clare must present to the ED and spend up to 3 days on a trolley, before ultimately being transported back to Ennis Hospital.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy, who’s a member of the HSE’s Regional Health forum West, has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that a root and branch reform of processes that bring people to the ED is urgently needed.
