Government Urged To Support Clare Families Affected By Mother And Baby Homes With Redress Scheme Review

The Government is being urged to review a redress scheme set up to assist families affected by Mother and Baby Homes such as those in Clare.

A new report has found that just 10% of the budget for the Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme has been spent, with just 5,997 applications made between March and December of 2024.

The last survivor of a Mother and Baby Home in Clare, Jimmy King, who was born in the County Clare Nursery in Kilrush, passed away last month.

PRO of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home Alliance, Breeda Murphy, says the scheme is discriminatory in its current form.
