Gardaí Appealing For Information On Two Fatal Road Collisions In Clare

Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to two fatal road collisions which have taken place in Clare over the weekend.

A woman in her 70s lost her life after being struck by a van in West Clare while a man in his 30s was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the Clare/Limerick border.

The first incident took place at Baunmore on the main N67 Kilrush to Kilkee road at approximately 7:10pm last evening.

It’s understood a woman sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a van while she was crossing the road.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Kilkee and Kilrush stations responded to the incident along with Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A portion of the N67 at Moyasta remains closed with local diversions in place and the services of the Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.

The road is expected to reopen at 3pm and Gardaí are advising motorists to take care on diversion roads.

Elsewhere, a man was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the Clare/Limerick border after the minibus he was driving struck Athlunkard Bridge, Corbally Road on the outskirts of Limerick City at approximately 2:55am this morning.

The man is understood to have been in his 30s and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The R463 at Athlunkard Bridge, Corbally is currently closed with local diversions in place and the services of the Forensic Collision Investigators have also been requested.

The bodies of both victims have been removed to University Hospital Limerick where post-mortems will take place.

Including the incident on the Clare/Limerick border, it brings to nine the number of people killed on the roads in Clare this year.
