It’s claimed community fundraising could make all the difference in ensuring a level playing field for an elite sportswoman from Ennis.
Isabella Sydney, who’s a member of the Munster Wheelchair Hurling Club, hopes to represent their All Ireland winning senior team, but this will be contingent on securing a custom-built sports wheelchair.
The teenager was born with Lumbar Sacral Agenesis, which has meant she was born without a lower spine and has had to undergo numerous surgeries, including a double leg amputation.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise 12,000 euro to help make Isabella’s dream come true and School Teacher and Organiser of the fundraiser, Maura O’Grady says she deserves it.
