According to Wicklow-Wexford TD Malcolm Byrne, the Taoiseach is unlikely to lead Fianna Fáil into the next General Election, which is due at latest in 2029.

A review of the party’s presidential election campaign is ongoing following the Jim Gavin debacle.

It’s understood, meanwhile, that 10 of the required 12 signatures to trigger an internal no confidence vote in Micheál Martin’s leadership have been secured.

Former Defence Minister and Clare TD, Tony Killeen believes his party could be in trouble at the next election.

Catherine Connolly romped home to victory easily in the Presidential election, but spoilt votes also made an overwhelming mark, amounting for an Irish electoral record of 13% of ballots.

Ennistymon based Co-Founder of Equality Not Care, Ann Marie Flannagan says the Government failed to field candidates that focused on important issues.

Despite being unable to enter government formation talks on a united front after the last General Election, Clare Social Democrats Chair Fiona Levie is confident the Presidential Race will prove to be a historical catalyst for the left.
