Former Clare JPC Chair Says There’s No Evidence To Support Figures Showing Rise In Serious Crime

A former Chair of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee insists there is no evidence on the ground to support new figures showing a rise in serious crimes in this county.

PJ Ryan has been reacting to figures released by the CSO which show a 30% increase in sexual offences recorded here in the first three months of the year.

The report also shows that murder attempts or threats, assaults, harrassments and related offences jumped by 13%, with thefts up almost 2%.

The CSO says these figures are “under reservation”, because of concerns over the quality of data provided to them by the Gardaí.
