Five Million Euro Worth Of Drugs Discovered In Clare

Five million euro worth of drugs have been uncovered in North Clare.

Revenue have seized approximately 75 kilograms of cocaine, concealed in what's described as a"torpedo type" device in Liscannor.

Acting on a report from a member of the public, officers discovered a suspicious item on the shore near Liscannor yesterday.

It's believed, that a "torpedo type" device, which contained 75 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of five million euro, may have been attached below the waterline of a cargo ship or other maritime vessel.

An investigation has been launched into the discovery but Revenue says it's not possible at this stage to say where the drugs originated, or their intended destination.

The discovery was made as part of the "Drugs Watch Programme", which encourages those living in coastal communities, maritime personnel and people living near airfields to report unusual or suspicious activities to Revenue Customs Service.

Revenue is asking members of the public not to put themselves in danger by approaching or interfering with suspicious items such as this.
