Fisherman perishes off Waterford Coast

A fisherman has died after a fishing vessel capsized in Tramore Bay off the Waterford coast.

The 16 foot fishing boat started to go down at around half past five this morning and the alarm was raised by one of the 2 crew members who swam to shore.

A coastguard helicopter was launched and the other fisherman located at around 8.30 but pronounced dead at Waterford Regional Hospital.

Both men are understood to be in their forties and from Dunmore East.
 
Today’s tragedy comes exactly six years after another fishing trawler, the Pere Charles sank off Dunmore East with the loss of five lives.
