Fears That New Pay-By-Weight System Will Worsen Clare Dumping Problem

A Sixmilebridge Councillor fears a new pay-by-weight system will worsen the problem of illegal dumping in Co. Clare. 

The mandatory scheme is being introduced nationwide in July, although some households have long paid by weight.

The Environment Minister Simon Coveney recently announced the scrapping of a plan for the introduction a minimum charge for green recycling bins.

But Fianna Fail Councillor Alan O'Callaghan claims the whole new system needs to be reviewed, as it would penalise people trying to tackle the problem of illegal dumping in their communities.
