Farm Crime Underreported As Some Farmers Fear Lack Of Recourse

The Clare-based General Secretary of the ICSA has said he believes trespassing or vandalism on farms is under-reported, as many farmers feel there’s no recourse, when these crimes are committed.

The CSO’s Crime and Victimisation report for 2019 has found that around one fifth of farm families have been victims of trespassing.

But around 40% of people said they hadn’t reported incidents to the Gardaí relating to a burglary or vandalism to the property.

Cratloe farmer Eddie Punch has experienced this type of crime on his own farm and he’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus it’s an endemic problem.
