Family Of 12-Year-Old Layla Says Recovery From Netherlands Operation Nothing Short Of “Miraculous”

The family of a 12-year-old north Clare girl, who’s been battling a serious illness for two years, say her recovery from a one of kind surgery in the Netherlands has been nothing short of “miraculous”.

Kilfenora native Layla Kelly was diagnosed with Cushings Disease in 2023 and since then has had to endure a number of surgeries targeting aggressive tumours, several rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Earlier this month, she travelled to the Netherlands for an operation so rare it was watched via video link by doctors from across the country, as well as here in Ireland.

A cycle is taking place this Saturday from Kilnaboy National School to Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo to raise vital funds for Layla’s treatments, medications, and future care.

Layla’s aunt, Sheila Keane says the family are left speechless by the phenomenal level of support from their north Clare community, as well as people elsewhere in Clare, Ireland and across the world.
