Evidence due to be heard in Carmody Trial

 

Evidence in the trial of a former East Clare doctor accused of obtaining money from dying cancer patients through false pretences is due to be heard before Ennis Circuit Court this morning.

Paschal Carmody of Ballycuggeran, Killaloe has pleaded Not guilty to 11 charges regarding the treatment of 3 now deceased patients who attended his East Clinic in Killaloe in 2001 and 2002.

The 62 year old denies obtaining the money amounting to over 30,000 euro through deception or the false pretence that he could cure the patients.

The trial is expected to last three weeks and will be heard by a jury of 8 men and four women who were sworn in yesterday.
