An environmental group objecting to plans for a development at a West Clare resort insists it won’t back down in its fight to protect a rare species.
Friends of the Irish Environment is opposing plans for further construction, including the building of a new ballroom, at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Doonbeg, due to the presence of a rare protected snail in the area.
The group challenged the original plans for the resort and claims a court order issued 26 years ago means no new planning permissions for the site can be granted until action is taken to maintain or improve the snail’s status.
Friends of the Irish Environment Director Tony Lowes says it’s difficult to explain the significance of the creature.
