Ennis Road Cut In Half For Pedestrian And Cycle Lanes

Residents in Ennis are said to be up in arms after a road was almost cut in half to introduce a new pedestrian and cycle lane.

Contractors acting on behalf of Clare County Council have reduced the road width on the Cloughleigh Road to make way for the West Clare Railway Greenway but the old road markings have been left in place.

This has led to anger among some residents who have posted on the Ennis Forum Page on Facebook that there has been a number of near-misses in the area.

The Irish Examiner reports that a spokesperson for the local authority says "A priority system for traffic on the road in question is in operation" and that the "lining scheme will shortly be completed by the contractor".

The West Clare Railway Greenway is a 42km cycling and walking route linking Ennis and Lahinch via Corofin and Ennistymon along the route of the dismantled west Clare railway.
