Ennis Judge Says No More Feuding Will Be Tolerated By Traveller Community

An Ennis Circuit Court Judge has said he will not tolerate any more feuding by the traveller community following an incident in which two men were chased with a machete and a hockey stick at an Ennis primary school.

23-year-old Thomas Molloy of An Pairc, Bru na hAbhann, Quinn Road has been handed a two-year suspended sentence following the incident in March 2012.
Ennis Circuit Court heard that Darren and Martin Maughan were in fear of their lives when Thomas Molloy and two others chased them through the Holy Family School in Ennis, on March 20th, 2012.
The Maughans barricaded themselves into a classroom, while the three men threatened to kill them.
Thomas Molloy was in possession of a hockey stick during the incident which happened at lunchtime, when parents were collecting their children from school and two others involved in the incident received a two year suspended jail term and a 12 month probation order.
Judge Gerald Keys said this was one of a number of feud related cases involving travellers to come before the court this week and that the court would no longer tolerate feuding by the traveller community.
Handing down a two year suspended sentence on Thomas Molloy, he advised other travellers in the court that if they "feel their rights have been infringed, it must be processed through the courts, and not by taking the law" into their "own hands."
