Ennis Gardaí To Clamp Down On Illegal Begging, Public Drinking And E-Scooters This Christmas

Gardaí will be increasing patrols in Ennis town centre as part of a major clampdown on anti-social behaviour.

The Christmas Operation will aim to provide reassurance to businesses, while tackling an array of recurring problems.

Professional begging, public drinking, illegal parking in disabled bays, the use of E-Scooters on footpaths and Anti-Social Behaviour have been noted by Gardaí as the priority problems to tackle in Ennis this Christmas.

From now until December 24th, Gardaí will be conducting a high visibility operation in the town centre, which will see a community policing van permanently stationed at the top of O’Connell Street and increased foot patrols.

Clare Community Policing Sergeant Dominic Regan says they’re fully committed to stamping out anti-social behaviour in the town and that offenders will face warnings, arrests and possible exclusion orders.

Just last week, the Retailers of Ennis group claimed that violence and anti-social behaviour had become the norm in the town due to a lack of a visible garda presence.

Sergeant Dominic Regan has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus, however, that the increased Garda presence will be constant and continue far beyond the Christmas period.

He says they’ll also be focusing on anti-social behaviour in local estates.
