Ennis Councillor Urges Mandatory Inquests To Be Introduced To Make Ireland Safe For Mothers

An Ennis Councillor has claimed Ireland will never be a safe place to have a baby until mandatory maternal inquests are introduced.

Under new plans backed by the Health Minister, the death of any woman in an Irish maternity hospital will now be subject to an external review.

But the concern is this will not be as far reaching as inquests, which have still not been made mandatory – despite the government committing to introducing this three years ago.
