Ennis has regained lost ground in the latest anti-litter league survey.
The county town has climbed to 14th place in the IBAL survey, having been knocked from the top spot to 22nd last year.
Ennis has reclaimed its status as Cleaner than European Norms in the latest litter survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter.
Only two years ago, the county town was named the cleanest in Ireland, but at the end of last year it dropped from the top spot to 22nd place.
It’s now climbed back up to 14th place in the ranking of 40 towns and cities.
The An Taisce report, commissioned by IBAL, states that Ennis is clearly proud of its heritage, with attractive street signage and ‘historic trail’ notices throughout the town.
It also notes that unlike many other towns across the country, there were remarkably few ‘vacant or unoccupied’ premises along its main streets of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street.
While, there were examples of Tidy Towns activity through ‘Biodiversity’ notices in Abbey Street Car Park and plaques naming trees in Tim Smyth Park, and Ennis Courthouse and Environs was noted as an ‘excellent site’.
