Three people have been brought to safety, after their boat ran aground near the Scariff River.

The alarm was raised by a concerned member of the public shortly before seven o’clock, after the 36 foot motor cruiser got into difficulty in Lough Derg, north of the entrance to the river.

A family of three was found safe and unharmed and wearing their lifejackets and following an inspection of the vessel by RNLI crew members, it was towed off the rocks and into safe water.
