One person has been hospitalised while several others escaped seriously injury following road traffic collision in Darragh this evening.
The two-vehicle head-on crash happened at around 5.30pm on the main Ennis to Kilrush N68 route.
Emergency services responded to the incident which occurred outside a local filling station and shop. National Ambulance Service paramedics responded to the scene along with units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station and Gardaí.
One of vehicles, a 4×4, collided with a wall and ended up on its side trapping one of the occupants inside. The car came to a stop on the other side of the busy road.
Fire crews used specialist equipment to cut through the windscreen of the 4×4 so they could safely extricate one of the occupants. Two other people in the same vehicle managed to climb to safety themselves before emergency services arrived.
Five people were assessed by paramedics however just one person from the 4×4 required to be transported to hospital. Two others in the vehicle with him also travelled in the ambulance.
Despite the road being completely blocked by the collision, fire crews implemented an emergency traffic management system and were able to divert traffic through the forecourt of the filling station.
The road is expected to reopen once the vehicles have been recovered and the scene cleared of debris.
