Transport Minister Hints At Shannon Group Supports

The Minister for Transport says he intends to ensure Shannon Group will be ‘well positioned’ to recover post COVID-19.

The correspondence from Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan, sent to Clare Fianna Fail TD Cathal Crowe, comes amid fears of job losses across the group’s heritage sites.

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and King John’s Castle in Limerick are due to close in two weeks time, while Cragaunowen and Knappogue and Dungauire Castles have remained closed since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Group remain in ongoing discussions with SIPTU and government representatives, but say they require up to €4 million in funding to keep the sites open year round.

Deputy Crowe says it is fast approaching ‘crunch time’ for employees at the sites.
