Govt Minister Insists Replacement Opportunities Will Be Sourced For Shannon Iceland Staff

The Minister for Business, Employment and Retail insists all efforts are being made to reopen Iceland’s Shannon outlet.

The British supermarket chain announced the closure of its Clare site last week after parent company Metron LTD entered liquidation.

The store created 28 jobs when it first opened at the Sky Court Shopping Centre in 2017 and under new legislation unsettled payments to the existing workforce would be prioritised in the event of a permanent closure.

Speaking at Clare’s Local Enterprise Office, Fine Gael Minister of State Neale Richmond says replacement opportunities will be sourced for all workers affected.
