Clare’s Sinn Fein Councillor insists the Pandemic Unemployment Payment should remain the same until at least Christmas.

It comes as the phasing out of the PUP begins today, with weekly payments reducing by €50 to €300.

More than three thousand people are still availing of the benefit in Clare.

The support will decrease again on two more occasions, in November and February, by €50 each time.

Shannon-based Councillor, Donna McGettigan, believes the payment should continue until all sectors of the workforce have returned fully, especially those in the live events and arts sectors.
