An East Clare man is hoping he can continue to access the necessary funding to bring the joy of sport to children from war-torn areas.
Wesley O’Brien of Killaloe-Ballina Tennis Club is the founder of ‘Hit and Hope’ which is a project that brings free tennis lessons and equipment to children in refugee camps in Europe and the Middle East.
So far, the initiative has reached Greece, Turkey, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Poland and Jordan, and the Kerry County Board recently donated a signed 2025 Kerry Senior Footballers Shirt to raise funds for future trips.
Wesley says he’s been pleasantly surprised by how open the children are to learning the sport.
