€35,000 For Repairs To O’Connell Monument

€35,000 in funding has been allocated to complete essential repair works to O’Connell Monument in Ennis.

The funding comes as part of more than €4.3 million set aside under the Historic Structures Fund and Built Heritage Investment Scheme.

Money awarded to Clare will go towards what are described as ’emergency and stabilisation’ works on the O’Connell Monument, and has been welcomed by Clare County Council.

Clare County Council issued the following statement:

‘Clare County Council welcomes the recent announcement by Josepha Madigan, TD, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, of funding for essential repairs to O’Connell Monument in Ennis through the Historic Structures Fund 2020.

The focus of this fund is for the care and restoration of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

The allocation of €35,000 grant funding together with investment from Clare County Council will generate local employment opportunities for specialised tradespeople.’
