The amount of money paid to Clare's local representatives has fallen by 400 thousand euro in light of the abolition of Town Councils.

Changes to local government saw the number of Councillors here drop from 68 to 28 from the middle of last year.
In 2013, the last full year in which the old arrangements applied, just over 1.25 million was paid to Councillors in salaries, allowances and expenses.
This year, however, that figure is due to drop to 850 thousand euro but the Council says the changes also led to a drop in income, due to the abolition of the town rate for Kilkee and Shannon and other additional costs.
