Presidential Honour For Gay Ennis Priest

A gay Catholic priest from Ennis is to be honoured by President Higgins for his work with the Irish abroad.

Fr. Bernárd Lynch was ordained in 1971, and is best known for his work with Aids victims in New York in the 1980s.

He later came out as gay, and married his husband Billy in 2017.

Now, he is to be receive the Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad at Áras an Uachtaráin on November 21st, though he says that he doesn’t view the award as being for just him.
